Knockout City Chronicle #1

Check out what Patch 1.2 has in store and learn about Coin Hoarders, our newest playlist!

Knockout City Chronicle #1 - Monday, June 7, 2021

It’s been just over two weeks now that everyone’s been Crewing up, throwing down, inflicting dodgeball-related injuries onto rival crews, and nursing their own scrapes and bruises. It’s high time this weekly dose of Knockout City news starts making its way into everyone’s hands (covered in varied and stylish gloves, might I add).

First things first, the DJ’s been watching from above, and in case you missed the announcement, we’ve had over 5 million brawlers come to Knockout City since we launched on May 21st. With over half a billion-with-a-B KOs, that’s an average of 100 KOs per brawler. Pat yourselves on the back!

Patch 1.2

Our team has been working hard to make improvements based on reports we’ve gotten from the community on Discord, Twitter, Reddit, and other places. Patch 1.2 will be out in the coming days, and while you’ll have to wait until it’s out to see the full list of what’s included, here are some highlights that we’re addressing:

  • We’ve made a handful of tweaks to our matchmaking systems, which will both reduce the likelihood of people getting placed into high-ping matches, and also give us more control to tweak related issues server-side without additional patches in the future.
  • The sound design in Knockout City has gotten a lot of compliments, but we know that nobody wants to sit on the Match Lobby screen and hear the game happening in the background. We fixed the bug causing this.
  • On PC, some of our players noticed that the mouse and keyboard settings would reset after they exited. Rest assured, you will be able to close the game, come back and not have to invert the Y axis (where my Y-axis invert peeps at?).

Season 1, Week 3

You balled up with your Crew in Week 1’s Ball-Up Brawl, you KO’d /everyone/ in Week 2’s KO Chaos free-for all, but how about a look at what’s coming next?

Week 3, starting tomorrow (June 8th) at 12pm UTC, brings Coin Hoarders, a brand new 3v3 playlist where you and your team will have to (surprise!) hoard coins. There will be eight coins on the map, and a brawler can hold up to three coins at a time. KO your opponents to grab their coins until your team holds all eight coins at the same time to win the round. First to win two rounds will win the match!

Also coming tomorrow, a whole new set of Crew Contracts for your Crew to complete. Complete two of them, and you’ll score the Checker Crew Banner. Four completed Contracts will get you the Custom Camo Vehicle. Remember, completing all six will get you an XP bonus that stacks for the remainder of the season! If you’ve gotten the boosts in Week 1 and 2, finishing out this week’s contracts will put you at a 15% XP boost, helping you chase down those Street Rank rewards a little bit faster.

Beyond Crew Contracts, we’ve got new gear hitting the Brawl Shop this week for you to enjoy. One of our favorites is the Legendary Public Service outfit, yours for 1200 Holobux when it lands in the Brawl Shop on June 12th. Show your opponents the disrespect of getting beaned in the face by someone wearing cute ice cream characters all over, or get your whole team to hack the extra styles so you can show up to a brawl looking like Magpie’s private security force.

Play of the Week

For our favorite play leading up to this week, it’s hard to ignore how amazing this play was, courtesy of m3m750. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so we’ll just share the clip and let you see for yourselves.

GG, Vincentoe. GG.

Community Catwalk

We’ve always said this game is about skill and style, so we can’t miss half of that equation by only sharing clips highlighting brawlers’ skills. There are so many great combos we’ve seen, but one that jumped out that I liked a lot was this one from Discord user Vexios. Cosplaying a character from another game within Knockout City, we love to see it!

If you want your clips or characters to be considered for these in future issues of Knockout City Chronicle, submit them in our Discord!

That’s a Wrap

We’ll catch you next Monday with the next issue of the Knockout City Chronicle to share another week of what’s coming in-game. Until next time, enjoy the outdoors while the weather’s nice, brawlers. We hear this summer’s gonna be a hot one.
